South Molton is in the heart of North Devon, and records suggest that there has been a brass band there since 1910.

The band has been entertaining the people all over the West Country and beyond for almost 100 years, performing concerts, taking part in carnivals and fetes, and charitable fund raising events, throughout the South West.

The band is entirely self supporting and its players travel from all over Devon to attend rehearsals and engagements.

Over the years the band has been very proud of its contesting achievements, and has taken part in many competitions. West of England area finals, SWBBA contest, Bugle Contest and Weston. Currently they are graded a third section band.

For many years the band has been conducted by a member of the Taylor family, and Gil Taylor is the current Musical Director. In the past it has been conducted by his Father, Grandfather and great uncle.

The diary is already filling up for engagements this year, and we are currently working on this new website, where you will be able to keep up to date with what is happening.

You can look up information on www.southmoltontownband.org.uk, where information is gradually being updated.

We are a very friendly band and normally rehearse on Thursday evenings, in the band room from 7.30 – 9.30. The band room is situated off the main square, top off the steps leading to the parish church. So if you play a brass instrument, and would like to join us, please contact any of the members for more information.
